Stop AI Data Centers - Clayton Tucker for TX Ag Commissioner Skip navigation

Stop AI Data Centers

Data centers, including those for AI, are cropping up across Texas. If we are not exceedingly smart with their design, placement, and purpose, they will cause higher water and power bills, run water wells dry, and may hurt jobs.

The TX Ag Commissioner can stop, or at the very least buy time for locals and other officials to find different ways to stop, these irresponsible AI data centers from causing mass water/power inflation or harming . On Day 1 of the job, Clayton will issue "Ag Impact Studies" to force data centers to be honest with their resource consumption. This will also slow them down considerably. Clayton will also help locals set up "Ag Development Districts" so that locals can fight back.

For a data center to be considered responsible, it must:

  1. Not cause power disruptions or inflation.
  2. Use brackish or other non-drinking water in a sustainable way, thereby not causing water bill inflation.
  3. Use unionized Texas labor for construction and maintenance.
  4. Pay fair and adequate taxes to their local community.
  5. Not contribute to the the inflation of RAM, computer memory, or other components leading to inflation of electronics.
  6. Not to be placed on prime farmland.
  7. Not be used to automate jobs away, used to promote propaganda, or be used to create a subscription economy where working people own nothing and billionaires own everything.

Data centers, including those for AI, are coming to mess with Texas. With them will come higher water and power bills, dry water wells, and no real jobs. These data centers are of, by, and for Wall Street. They will harm both Main Street families and County Road farms. We need an Agriculture Commissioner who will fight to stop all irresponsible AI data centers from causing mass utility inflation and who will put Texans first, not Wall Street or Big Tech.

I live in a town with less than 1000 people and I’ll be damned if they decide to build a data center near our town or our neighbors 😡

I live and work on my families ranch. They bought a working ranch less than 6 miles from us to put a data center already. They got over 500 plus acres of prime farmland, and paid the rancher over 47 million dollars for it!

I live less than a mile from where an advanced robotics manufacturing site for Amazon is going to be built in Austin next to the Colorado river. Data centers could be next, as it could very likely become a large industrial region instead of the multiuse mini city the developers and city have touted it to be. It happened so fast, behind closed doors, no time for the public to learn about it or contribute to the conversation. I spent 12 hrs at city hall giving testimony and watching pure political theater. There are no written protections or promises. Many environmental regulations and land development laws have been waived. I’m so disheartened by what is happening across the state and now it’s coming to my backyard too. I support all your efforts. Thank you.

Time for young people who see the writing on the wall that will rob them of a decent life if the Data Centers and Detention Centers are not STOPPED.

Utilities costs are already ridiculously high. In my area; whatever damage is done, will be brushed under the rug just like with the pcb cleanup. We cannot afford to continue to pay for someone else’s profits. Data centers would be a 1,000 times worse in damage to the electrical grid, water supply, wildlife, and natural habitats.

Help increase our impact!
