Stop AI Data Centers - Clayton Tucker for TX Ag Commissioner Skip navigation

Stop AI Data Centers

Data centers, including those for AI, are cropping up across Texas. If we are not exceedingly smart with their design, placement, and purpose, they will cause higher water and power bills, run water wells dry, and may hurt jobs.

The TX Ag Commissioner can stop, or at the very least buy time for locals and other officials to find different ways to stop, these irresponsible AI data centers from causing mass water/power inflation. On Day 1 of the job, Clayton will issue "Ag Impact Studies" to stop irresponsible AI data centers from messing with Texas.

For a data center to be considered responsible, it must:

  1. Not cause power disruptions or inflation.
  2. Use brackish or other non-drinking water in a sustainable way, thereby not causing water bill inflation.
  3. Use unionized Texas labor for construction and maintenance.
  4. Pay fair and adequate taxes to their local community.
  5. Not contribute to the the inflation of RAM, computer memory, or other components leading to inflation of electronics.
  6. Not to be placed on prime farmland.
  7. Not be used to automate jobs away, used to promote propaganda, or be used to create a subscription economy where working people own nothing and billionaires own everything.

Data centers, including those for AI, are coming to mess with Texas. With them will come higher water and power bills, dry water wells, and no real jobs. These data centers are of, by, and for Wall Street. They will harm both Main Street families and County Road farms. We need an Agriculture Commissioner who will fight to stop all irresponsible AI data centers from causing mass utility inflation and who will put Texans first, not Wall Street or Big Tech.

I don’t know if data centers are good are bad. I have my suspicions of course but I’ll reserve that for now.

I believe if a data center is for national security then yes we need them. But also would make sense to place perhaps only one per state. Not 150 in each state. Texas has an extraordinary number coming to Texas. Texas doesn’t have the water and electric load to serve them.

I write articles for the Buffalo Gap News about loss of agriculture land and the danger of our food supply. I served as one of five state directors of the Texas Association of Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) 16 years.
I also served as Vice President of a large electric power generation plant that mined lignite coal for the plant. I served on both the electric board and mining board for 20 years in south Texas. I feel I know Texas water and electric needs. Both critical to our state and both in deep negative decline.

I had a friend opposing a data center near him. He called me and said the Data Center Representatives said in a public meeting the new center once built would only use 3 giga watts of electricity. His question to me was “in cowboy terms what is three giga watts”?

I informed him 3 giga watts would run the residents home in the city of Abilene, Wichita Falls, and Lubbock with just a smidge left over. That’s what 3 giga watts is in cowboy terms.

Texas is needing a 100 extra giga watts for the proposed new data centers on construction in Texas. Texas doesn’t have it, not even close.

I think the state allowing all these Data Centers to build is getting the tail before the horse,

Watch the Texas citizens water and electric rates go up so High Tech makes billions of dollars.

I believe a lot more in-depth study, which hasn’t been done yet, needs to be done before we build more data centers.

The question remains for me: " is this national security? Or is this so you and I can get 100 more junk emails and 100 more phishing phone calls per day?"

My signature at the paper: The guy at the end of the line.

That referring to all things that happen where in politics, water, electric, other where corruption and/or stupid produces higher prices we are always the ones who pay $$$$ for it, at the electric or water meter. We are always “That Guy at the end of the line.”
