Save Texas Soil
"The nation that destroys its soil destroys itself." —President FDR
Texas soil is dying. From being paved over to being poisoned, our soil is becoming less fertile.
- Organic matter in soil has dropped to below 1%.
- Water erosion has stripped away an estimated 40–60% of the original topsoil.
- Wind erosion removes 14 tons of soil per acre per year.
- Healthy soils hold more water, while damaged soils absorb less.
- Texas leads the nation in lost farmland, with 1.3 million acres lost.
- Glyphosate (RoundUp), forever chemicals (PFAS/PFOA), and other chemicals harm soil health, harm nutrition levels in foods grown in disrupted soils, etc.
The healthier our soil, the healthier our Texas.
We need to save Texas soil! As Texas Agriculture Commissioner, Clayton Tucker will help farmers phase out chemical inputs and shift to organic/regenerative practices, will work with local communities to prevent more farmland from being lost to development, and will work to ensure we save our Texas soil for future generations.
