Austin, TX - Attorneys sent a letter to Republican Party of Texas Chair D’rinda Randall requesting a review of Republican nominee Data Nate’s eligibility to serve as Texas Agriculture Commissioner.
The letter argues that Data Nate does not meet the agricultural experience requirements under Texas law.
Tucker released the following statement:
“Texans deserve an Agriculture Commissioner who meets the requirements Texas law sets for this office.
“I grew up working on my family’s ranch. I’ve baled hay, mended fences, worked livestock, and spent my life around the people who produce our food. Agriculture isn’t a campaign prop to me. It’s my life.
“Data Nate likely does not meet the legal qualifications to serve as Texas Agriculture Commissioner, which the law sets as being involved in agriculture for the last 5 years. Importing food, and processing it outside Texas, does not count under Texas law. Owning a small number of beehives in Frisco does not count. Data Nate has not owned his hobbyist ranch for long enough for it to count under Texas law.
“Texas law is clear: the Commissioner who oversees Texas Agriculture should be of, by, and for those who are actually in the industry.
“Attorneys have presented this information to the Republican Party of Texas and asked its chair to review the facts. The rules should apply to everyone, whether you’re a family farmer or a multimillionaire businessman.
“Texans deserve answers. We expect the Republican Party of Texas to review the evidence, follow the law, and tell the people of Texas what it finds.”
The letter requests a response from the Republican Party of Texas within three business days. Click here to see the letter.
