Monopolies - Clayton Tucker for TX Ag Commissioner Skip navigation

Bust Monopolies

Monopolies have rigged prices to harm Texas families from the countryside to the city. Just a handful of corporations control our food system.

  • Four corporations control 60% of our coffee, cookies, and bread market.
  • Four corporations control 70% of our yogurt, beer, and soybean seeds.
  • Four corporations control 80% of our meat industry, two of which aren't even American.

Instead of living in a free market, we now live in a monopoly market.

We are not against big farms or ranches, or against family-owned companies owning farms. We are greatly concerned about the transnational corporations that have and continue to rewrite the rules to enlarge themselves at the expense of everyone else.

Monopolies are devouring America. They destroy small businesses, they price-gouge Americans, they rewrite our trade rules to ship our jobs overseas, they allow toxins to be in our food, they turn free markets into monopoly markets, and more. We broke up monopolies in the past. We must do it again.

I met Clayton at a Rural Conference earlier this year and I was inspired by his vision and passion for the work he loves. He had creative ideas, an energy that was conatagious and a vision for real change. Breaking up monopolies takes all those things and that is why I support him for AG Commissioner in 2026. Doing nothing is not an option.

Bust the monopolies! Let’s be able to afford to feed our children meat often again. As a single mother, this is no longer an option for my growing children. Meat is not cheap enough to fill bellies, but pasta & cheaper jarred sauce is. I grow my own tomatoes but the harvest wasn’t good this year. I wish when this happens, I could afford to supplement like I used to. It breaks my heart to see my daughter’s birthday dinner be the PTO’s donated lunch to teachers (which I am in public school) be taken home to be her special treat on her birthday. No cake. Nothing else. I can’t afford it. What year is it? I make $70,000 annually and can’t pay my bills or buy my kid a birthday cake or nice dinner.
