Lampasas, TX - Clayton Tucker, candidate for Texas Agriculture Commissioner, called for the immediate suspension of the gas tax to help lower prices at the pump for working Texans and challenged Republican nominee Nate Sheets to publicly support the effort.

With fuel prices continuing to strain Texas farmers and families already dealing with rising grocery bills, housing costs, and utility bills, Tucker said immediate relief should come before politics.

“The greedy few are squeezing Texans from every direction. Food costs more. Power costs more. Gas costs more. Meanwhile, politicians keep protecting the same rigged system that made it happen.

Suspending the gas tax is common sense during the affordability crisis. Texans should keep more of their own money instead of getting nickel-and-dimed every time they fill up.

The real question is whether Nate Sheets will stand with working Texans or wait for Greg Abbott to tell him what he’s allowed to support.

If he wants to be Agriculture Commissioner, he should be willing to show some independence and fight for the people who actually keep Texas running, not just the political machine and the corporate interests behind it.”

Tucker said lowering costs for working families isn’t about being left or right, it’s about being pro-working Texan.

“If President Trump and Commissioner Sid Miller can support gas tax relief, Nate Sheets can too. This shouldn’t be about party politics. It should be about whether you fight for regular people or the greedy few who keep rigging the rules.”
