Stop Surveillance Pricing
Surveillance pricing uses AI to change prices in grocery stores from person to person, neighborhood to neighborhood. This is means higher prices for you at your local grocery store.
Shoppers can see the prices change on the electronic shelf labels (ESLs), just like normal paper price tags.
Corporations can use your data -- your Internet search history, your location, your income, your personal history, your social media posts, etc. -- to price gouge you when they know you need a pecticular item.
This has been happening online. It’s now coming to your local grocery store and other places. Walmart has plans to use them in every U.S. store by the end of 2026.
Farmers are cheated by surveillance pricing. The same AI algorithms that calculate the highest price shoppers will pay, determine how little food monopolies can get away with paying farmers.
We can stop Tech Barons from doing this. Ten states already acted to regulate ESLs and surveillance pricing.
Texas has NO safety rails to protect consumers. Instead, legislators are taking millions in campaign donations from monopolies and billionaires connected to massive AI projects. Local elected officials are handing out billions in incentives to build these projects.
The Texas Commissioner of Agriculture has the power to slow AI’s pocket-picking algorithm scheme while we elect a Legislature that can create new laws to protect consumers, farmers and ranchers.
We need to stop AI pocket-picking algorithm scheme, especially at our grocery store and on the farm. The Texas Ag Commissioner should do everything in his power to stop the Tech Baron's surveillance pricing.
