Hemp - Clayton Tucker for TX Ag Commissioner Skip navigation

Hemp

Hemp is an important product with many uses and benefits.

As Texas Agriculture Commissioner, Clayton Tucker fully supports the right for every farmer to raise hemp, and adults to consume hemp products, without undue interference from government or corporations. Clayton is against any corporation creating a monopoly on hemp production or processing. Clayton supports fair and transparent labeling for all hemp products. Clayton will work with both Congress and the Texas Legislature to achieve this.

I lived in Colorado were Hemp is a highly regulated crop, and farmers must ensure the THC content in the plants is very low. If they test high, the entire field is destroyed. When TX decides whether or not they want to grow hemp here, I think you might some lessons learned in the CO model. That said, a hay farmer I used to buy my horse hay from switched some of his alfalfa fields to hemp. That made my horse hay more expensive. I would support hemp as a crop in Texas, in part because I am sure there is a need for crop diversity.

It’s high time (pun intended) we capitalize on this humble plant.

Legalize all cannabis. You have my vote anyway, Clayton.
